Today was our 4 month Dr appointment. Grant is 15 pounds 1 ounce and 25 1/4 inches. Pretty ordinary according to the growth charts. We spent a lot of time talking about juice at the doctor's office today. I guess they (American society of pediatrics?) are taking a stand against juice and saying that you should wait as long as possible to introduce juice into a kid's diet. Have things changed that much since Spencer was a baby? I really had to say that I am on board with the whole no juice concept, to the point I am thinking about not stocking juice in our refrigerator anymore. Thoughts on a juice free household?
I support the idea....Juice lasts a VERY LONG TIME in our house... Jackson gets "juice" several times a day...but it's a "splash" to add color...literally 5/6 water and 1/6 th juice. I also do this when we go out to eat...he can have sprite with 1/2 water...treat!
ReplyDeleteI haven't given Dane any juice...water or milk.
Hold back as long as you can...at least until after he's one. Just my thoughts as a dietitian.
Well, I hadn't planned on giving Carson juice. I had read it wasn't necessary, and his pediatrician agreed. I didn't want him to fill his belly with that when he could be drinking Mom's milk. I mentioned to the Dr. at Carson's 9 month appt. that he had been having some pooping problems since starting solids. The Dr. recommended 1/2 juice 1/2 water for that. I offer that to him with his solids. He really isn't that into it though. Cute pics! Soon Grant will be the same size as Carson.
ReplyDeleteAt this point Spencer gets 2/3 water 1/3 juice once or twice a day. maybe that's not so bad.
ReplyDeleteWe are a juice free house. I have always been anti-juice. Why give them so much sugar? My kids each drink a gallon of milk in 3-4 days. If we're outside playing, I give them water. Occasionally I give Mason extremely watered down iced tea (decaf) with dinner.
