Greetings from Colorado

We arrived in Colorado last night around midnight after a really uneventful drive. We didn't think we could do the whole drive in one day but the kiddos cooperated. Today we went sledding.
The guy on the right is my brother. Whitney and Conner are his kiddos. We had a blast sledding.

Spencer looked pretty cool in his snow clothes and sunglasses.

This is why I like boys. They have better toys. I build a train layout with all of Spencer's blocks this morning. He loved it.

Brotherly love. A definite improvement from WWF 3 weeks ago.

Grant is 6 weeks old all ready! He's looking more like Spencer these days.

PS. Both boys are healthy now!!! Yay!

Updates

Turns out we didn't have time to look for a new doctor. Tuesday night Grant came down with a nasty cough. Yesterday he developed a fever, which normally wouldn't alarm me except that at Grant's two week well baby visit the doctor said "I want you to come in immediately if he gets a fever between now and the next appointment. You can ignore symptoms in toddlers for a long time but not in babies this little" So I went in. We saw a different PA this time and I really like her. She seems competent and good with the kiddos. I will be requesting her in the future. Turns out Grant has RSV. Bad deal for him. He's doing OK except the pluggy nose makes it hard to eat and his mean mommy keeps suctioning his nose with the bulb syringe (I don't like it anymore than he does.) On the up side Grant weighs 11 pounds 6 ounces all ready. Grow baby grow!

Spencer is an elephant

Since Spencer has had a cough for the last 6 weeks I decided that it might be time for him to see a doctor. the problem is that his doctor was book solid the only day he's in the office this week. So they put us with the PA in his office, saying that she can discuss her exam with him so it will be like seeing the doctor (or as close as I can get this week). For those of you keeping track this is the same PA that has been overdosing Spencer's antibiotics all year.

Against my better judgement we saw the PA, Spencer likes her and I am confident she would notice if he had anything life threatening. We told he about the cough lasting 6 weeks and that he wakes up all night long with coughing, stridor and wheezing and that it's worse if we forget his singulair before bed. She said "i think it's either allergies or asthma causing his cough, I don't think he's choking on a foreign object". He's had this cough on and off for more than two years did she think that no one would notice that for 2 years?!?!

She decided the best course was to put him on a steroid nebulizer every night and see if that helps. She left the room to write the prescriptions and when her nurse came back with the scripts this it the conversation that happened:

Me: She said she was writing for a steroid.

Nurse: She did, see? (holding out the script)

Me: that says albuterol.

Nurse: Yeah that's a steroid.

Me: No it isn't.

Nurse: While it has a steroid in it.

Me: No it doesn't.

Nurse (getting mad at me): Yeah I think it does.

Will and I together: We're pharmacists. It doesn't.

Nurse: I'll go ask her about that, she's with another patient.

Sure enough...she found out that the PA talked to the doctor who thought that steroids shouldn't be first line treatment for asthma and her had he write for albuterol.

So we got the albuterol and another antibiotic (dosed wrong) for ear infection #4 this season.

This is Spencer getting his first dose of albuterol. At first he was scared but after wasting a dose playing with the mist he was willing to try the elephant mask.

The good news is that Spencer slept all night and neither of us heard him cough, not even once.

So here's my question.

We all see this doctor and really like him but we've been stuck seeing the PA the last few times we've been in and I really really don't like her. Is this worth finding a new doctor for all 4 of us over? Would it be out of line to refuse to see the PA?

Jen is helping Spencer hold Samantha while Scott and Bridget (holding Grant) look on.

Cari, Clint and Colton Davis (they are not related to us but we like them anyway). Colton is 2 months old.

Spencer, Will, Grant, Samantha and Jen. We have been friends with Jen and Tim since we moved to Evansville almost 4 years ago. Samantha was born the day before Grant. I am sure she will make many appearances on this blog in the next few years.
